Daily Poll: Will Yahoo Life! Revolutionize the Way We Use E-Mail?

Unlike Bill Gates??? boring keynote, Yahoo???s CES keynote actually had some interesting product announcements – namely Yahoo Life! and Yahoo Mobile. Yahoo Life! (yes, the exclamation mark is obligatory until everyone gets sick of it and simply drops it from the name) is in fact more of a sneak peak of a future product; there is no date set for its release, but it seems to be quite polished even at this early stage.

The premise is this: take Yahoo Mail, and make it the hub of your daily online activities; turn e-mail addresses into social profiles; connect e-mail to other services, and use the info from the contacts in these services according to the context.

Here???s an example from the CES keynote: you???re calling a couple of your friends to dinner. You drag their profiles to a map and you can easily suggest a restaurant that???s conveniently placed for everyone (not to mention that you can also see your friends??? food preferences).

It sounds and looks great, but we can???t know how well it works until the product actually goes live. What we can do, however, is think hard of how many times you actually felt the need to use e-mail in such a way. Personally, I wouldn???t mind having the ability to do all this extra stuff as long as my e-mail doesn???t get too cluttered; e.i. as long as I can turn the extras off. I would hate to see my Inbox turning into Facebook-like hell. I must admit that – as dated as it is – e-mail still is an important part of my online activity, and therefore it might be a good idea to make it the center around which everything else revolves. What???s your take? Do you like old fashioned e-mail, and don???t want it to change, or you???re sick of e-mail???s simplicity and are ready to welcome Yahoo???s innovations? You can speak your mind in the poll below.

Will Yahoo Life! Revolutionize the Way We Use E-Mail?

    • Yes, and it will be for the better; oldschool e-mail is boring
    • It might, but it will ruin it. I’ll stick to my good old desktop e-mail client
    • No, people won’t care about all those new shenanigans
    • No, but it might turn out to be an interesting service, I’ll use it even if I don’t stop using my old e-mail reader
